In Awe of His Faithfulness,
About Us |
Get Acquainted with Amen International Missions. Our history and core beliefs shape our faith and continue to grow with us as Christ makes us about Him. We believe the motive and power for mission is the gospel of grace at work in the life of a believer. The mission and vision statements are written by our missionary family in 2008.
Core Values:
The following eight core values represent the essence of what Amen International Missions is to be and to do, and will shape the planning and implementation of our mission.
Centrality of the Gospel: The gospel unites us to the Living Christ as the continuing ground, motive, and method of our mission work.
Primacy of Missions: We are captive to the first words the risen Christ spoke to his assembled disciples, "As the Father has sent me, I am sending you."
Kingdom centered prayer: Our desire is that prayerful dependence uniquely characterizes our mission work, in a way that involves staff, missionaries and ministry partners.
Ministering from weakness: We will not hesitate to confess or boast in our weaknesses in a way that shows the all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
People focused ministry: God has called us to move by grace with faith to love others, and not just educate, manage or treat.
Evangelism and church planting: We will not count our work of evangelism and discipleship finished in an area until self-supporting, indigenously led, reproducing churches are planted.
Training, equipping and mobilizing leadership: We are committed to gospel discipling and preparing new leaders in Christ-centered living and grace-filled leadership.
Encouragement of churches and pastors: We are committed to encouraging pastors in personal and congregational renewal as well as encouraging greater involvement in the mission of world evangelization.
Vision Statement:
Movements of churches empowered by grace for the world’s good and God’s glory.
Movements of Churches: Jesus said to his disciples, “As the Father sent me, so I am sending you” (John 20:21). As followers of Jesus, we have a new identity as the “sent ones.” This is true both of individual believers and of the church corporately. In fact, Jesus tells the disciples that the way they live together will itself be seen as an expression of the kind of Kingdom he has come to bring (John 13:34-35). Our vision therefore, while encompassing individual men, women and children coming to know Jesus, is wider than this. We long to see those who come to know Jesus gathering together and forming vibrant churches. We believe these congregations will be at their healthiest when they are actively living out their identity as “sent ones” by partnering together with other churches to proclaim the good news of the Kingdom to their city, their nation, and around the world. We see this leading to a groundswell of new church-plants. We seek to facilitate and encourage these movements of churches by building relationships with likeminded individuals, organizations and national church leaders.
Empowered by Grace: Amen Mission's missionaries are people who have been transformed personally by the grace of Jesus Christ. This grace shows us that we bring nothing to our own salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9). The grace of Jesus Christ is the means through which we begin our lives as Christians and the power for ongoing repentance and faith, through which we continue to grow (Galatians 3:3). We want to nurture church movements that are “strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:1). We are convinced that only knowing and relying on God’s grace can enable individuals and churches to risk taking up their places in proclaiming Christ’s Kingdom to the ends of the earth.
For the World’s Good: God’s intention that his people be a blessing in the world in which they live is clear throughout Scripture (Genesis 18:18, Jeremiah 29:7, Matthew 5:16, Galatians 6:9–10). Also clear is God’s redemptive purpose toward restoration of “Shalom”—the well-being, wholeness, and peace he intended for his creation to enjoy (Genesis 3:15, Revelation 21). He sent his Son to serve the world and make this restoration possible through his sacrificial, atoning death on the cross (John 3:16, Mark 10:45–46). Part of the church’s call to follow Christ is a call to carry on his sacrificial, life-giving work—to lay down our lives to be God’s servants in the world. We want to see churches and disciples who understand and embrace this calling to pour their lives into service that the world may know the goodness and glory of God.
And God’s Glory: The glory of God is the end of all we do. As we do the work of preaching, healing, and equipping, we ultimately want to point beyond all these things to the great God who is and was and will forever be worthy of all our praise and adoration. At the end of history, He will dwell with his people—a people from every tribe, tongue and nation—in a new creation that perfectly reflects his glory and grace (Revelation 21). Until that day, we seek, by his grace to love, serve, and give ourselves to proclaiming the news of this Kingdom to the ends of the earth.
Mission Statement:
Laying down our lives to proclaim the Kingdom of Jesus Christ through preaching, healing and equipping.
Laying down our lives: We lay down our lives in joyful response to the call of Christ, who laid down His life for us (2 Corinthians 5:14–15). We do this in partnership with believers everywhere who have answered Christ’s call to be willing to lose our lives for his sake (Matthew 16:24–25). The reality of God’s love shown in our hearts causes us to value His Kingdom above our own personal pursuits. By faith, we have counted the cost, and found that what we gain by making the sacrifices necessary to follow Jesus is far greater than what we lose.
To proclaim the Kingdom of Jesus Christ: The gospel message we seek to proclaim is this: that the Kingdom of God has invaded this fallen and broken world and is driving back the forces of darkness, bringing the reconciliation and restoration of the whole of creation (Revelation 21). The gospel is a message of personal forgiveness, assurance of a life in heaven, and personal sanctification, but it is also more than all of these things. It is the good news that every force that conspires to destroy the glory of God in man, society, or creation is coming under the reign of Jesus Christ. Believing that the proclamation of the gospel of the Kingdom requires both words and action, we send missionaries both to speak the gospel message and to incarnate it.
Through preaching: While we believe the proclamation of the Kingdom must include actions as well as words, we do not want to minimize the importance of preaching—of giving verbal expression to the gospel message we seek to live out (1 Peter 3:15). This can take place in a clinic, a coffee shop, from a street corner or a pulpit. The aim of our preaching is always to exalt Jesus Christ as the sole source of salvation and the center of the ongoing life of faith.
Healing: We believe seeking the healing of physical, emotional, and social brokenness is an inextricable part of proclaiming the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. When Jesus sent out his disciples, he sent them to teach, preach, and heal (Matthew 4:23–25). Early church leaders were instructed to pray for healing for the sick and broken (James 5:14-16). We believe healing–treating injury and disease, providing drinkable water, and seeking to influence social and economic structures–is itself an active expression of the far-reaching effects of the gospel of the Kingdom, and not just a means to the end of converting the soul.
Equipping: We recognize that the proclamation of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ is a task far bigger than World Harvest Mission—it is a task given by Jesus to the Church. Therefore, we seek to support and strengthen churches around the world, coming alongside church leaders to help them live and minister out of the gospel of grace. We do this in a variety of ways, from publishing training resources and presenting seminars to one-on-one relationships and personal discipleship. We equip others knowing that they can take the gospel further and deeper into their cultures than we ever could. Our goal in all this is to see the Church built up and invigorated for her part in the unfolding drama of redemption and re-creation, through which the Kingdom of Jesus Christ is made known throughout the earth (Ephesians 4:11–13).
